Walking carelessly in the deep, soft sand, my bare feet absorb every grain, soaking in the warmth. I stumble upon a perched two-toned umbrella, providing me a few moments of shade. Tropical palms abound, dancing around me with the gentle ocean breeze. Comfortably dressed in my suit, I squat, deeply inhaling the fragrance of the salty ocean air. The ocean's edge appears a perfect tone of light green. It is harmonious to look at and listen to. I wish to sit at length before emerging in it. The sight of the water cools and refreshes me. I reach into my tote, shuffling past my gear, and manage to grasp one of my large ripe mangos. It's juice provides a sweet sensation across my body. I am fortified now. Swimming through the smooth current, I double check to be sure my gear is safely in place. The stark white of my snorkel and mask, seems to be very appealing to the many creatures of this hidden shoreline sanctuary. One creature in particular swims towards me with her big round bubbly lips. Her size comes close to mine, though not intimidating. Her large ebony spots evenly spread over her scaly body, compliment her vertical golden amber-like stripes. We swim in a circular and rhythmical pattern, sharing each other's joy. I am unconsciously transported to a very special place.

Rural Composition

Giovanna layed gracefully over the deep purple field of poppies. The tones of purple from these magnificient flowers casted peacefully onto the light lilac sky. Her creme colored dress blended perfectly with the facing of the rural barn displayed at the top of the hill. As she turned to get a better view, her lipstick accidentally smudged onto her dress, making her realize how dark she had applied it. It was only a shade lighter than the barn's bright red attachment. She felt a small connection and excitedly began sketching what she viewed onto her large parchment. The dark pigment of the poppies around her, compelled her to sketch with her red violet pencils. Aggressively drawing, she listened to their sound against the paper as she continuously lifted her head with her loose ponytail swaying in the breeze. She gathered her raw umbers and burnt siennas to create the windows of the barn and its door, which resembled a large brown package with a string around it. She desired to untie it and proceeded in adding her cremes and golds onto the bare whites of her paper. She fell blissfully onto her back. It was then she imagined why the window at the top of the barn was emitting such a precious, light pink tone. She believed it was because it was overflowing with dozens of roses radiating from different spectrums of the rainbow. Afer adding this hint of pink to her drawing, she clutched the parchment with both hands, tight against her chest, and ran up the hill. The bond she felt with this structure was magnetically growing. Straight through its welcoming door she went.

Thirty-five degrees and the sun was shining. Her little legs in the snow were like ballerinas dancing on their tip toes. She was so excited to be running around in the outdoors. He held her loosely on her leash as she pulled him along. Trying to land a firm spot on the halfway-cleared sidewalk, all three of them stopped as they approached "Warren". A chain link fence at the bottom of the drive kept them from legally going any further. Natural beauty poured from its pure coloration and its charm made them anxious to lift the chain, not to mention Zippy already gesturing underneath. He pulled her from under the chain and back by his side as she looked up to him, questioning why he did that. For the moment they had to imagine what was inside until it slowly re-opened Memorial Day weekend. She thought it stored bottles of wine, hand-pressed by men from outside of Sorrento, now residing in the Notch. Zippy tugged and signaled it was time to go. They retained the good karma and energy emitted from the eye-catching structure and would all remain patient until the fifth month arrived.

Ludlow

Frantically I raced in and out of the many downtown shops and galleries, looking for that perfect book to embrace in this bewildering spring-like weather. All of a sudden, I noticed a very unique type of literary boutique. Its white exterior and bright red door drew me closer. Its front door implied, "Come in", while its intriguing back door, lead to a spacious covered seating area. I peaked inside and was greeted with a soft, sincere hello. The barn board walls were brimming with hand built shelving abundantly furnished with oodles of rare and new books. To my right were vintage coffee grinders and tea pots full of hot boiling water, perched upon a wood stove. I felt so fortunate to have found the perfect resting spot to recover from my busy morning. She handed me a pretty pink porcelain cup and silver spoon, ready to teach me how to make my cup of coffee, but I already knew. I turned the handle with ease, opened the drawer and scooped a couple of tablespoons into my steaming water. She kindly offered me milk and sugar, which I accepted. I grasped my cup and saucer with a copy of Gulliver's Travels tucked under my arm and headed to the back porch. The grey-blue sky created the perfect lighting and accentuated the wondrous back side of the barn. Hours passed. I went back inside to pay for my coffee and purchase this terrific book, though to my surprise the storekeeper said that she couldn't sell it to me. I thought the reason was due to its rarity, but instead she shared that she has not come across anyone as wide eyed and appreciative of her Ludlow boutique and that I must come back tomorrow to visit. We had an agreement.

Walking carelessly through the woods, I arrived at an open field of lofty grass. The field must have been an average of three acres, clearly resembling a warm open sea. The grass emitted a subtle sea life tone, which enhanced the physical appearance of the cardinal red, mathematical structure preceding me. The roof retained hints of leftover snow, quickly melting as I halted. Spring was truly playing tricks on me. The caretaker must have momentarily departed because the second story window was halfway down and the barn door was wide. I was curious and traversed to the rear of the barn. The recognizable smell of cow manure lingered in the air. Pearing at me on a long yellow rope was the most fascinating black and white creature I had ever laid eyes upon. I startled him, yet he was such a pleasant surprise to me. He was so lucky to have such a nice place to call home. His left eyeball seemed enournmous, as I stood tall to his shoulder blade. He announced a loud cry which told me he was hungry. I circled the front and grabbed him some of that sweet smelling fresh green grass. He ate out of my hand like there was no tomorrow. Little did he know I would be visiting Wyeth's Hideaway daily and he and I would become very close friends.

The brick red tone captured my heart. I yearned to soak in everything my brother absorbed on his Sunday journey. I profoundly believed the architectural form beside me had a beauty all of its own. It was a bit larger than the picturesque "Montpelier" barn. My pride and joy retained a long, dark rectangular attachment to its right as well as a petite ebony bulkhead-like entrance to the south. Its single white barn door stood out like a spiritual monument, with an embedded directional tool upon it. I confidently slid the door to the left. It was speaking to me, without the creaky moans heard on its cold wintery nights. The touch of mossy green, assisted me with a silent go ahead signal. Inside was much more than a stable. There were piles of magazines, stacks neatly arranged of various metal pill boxes and small containers of vintage sewing kits that were barely scratched. Eager to see what the upstairs held, I tripped over a bottle. This bottle had some weight to it, the label still attached and it was only half drunken with its cap still in place. My intrigue was bubbling over. The final step was a little wobbly but I managed to carefully place both feet onto the wide sturdy barn board floor. To my amazement, it appeared mostly clear and swept clean except for the back left corner. This is where the sunlight from the barn's top window flooded in, directly showcasing a pair of angelic skates that were left behind. I was drawn to their presence. I couldn't wait to share this golden treasure with my brother.

As he traversed on the flat, hard-packed snow, his boots fell firm to the ground with each step. He had to use most of his power to bring each leg forward, closer to his treasured spot. He knew it wouldn't be long now, for the ancient etching his great grandmother created was now becoming more of a reality. He could barely believe his eyes. The black and white tones he recalled from her engraving did no justice for the roaring rustic mustards and browns of the Oz barn in front of him. His heart lifted and pounced once he sighted the single red door. Ecstatically, it slid to the right ever so smoothly for him. The brick red tone reminded him of a dream he had, where he was given the largest Christmas gift ever, wrapped with a thick, white ribbon just for him. He advanced over the threshold, while inhaling strong scents of aged horse hay. Concurrently he viewed abounding archaic farm tools, hanging on the aged barn boards, still in place from when the beggarly farmers last utilized them. He peeled off his mittens, tore off his cap and rested breathlessly, dead center of the barn on the largest mountain of hay he could climb to. His boots seemed so weightless now. He could not have been one degree warmer or one inch closer to his Oma.

It was full steam ahead for the sailor and his schooner. After such a horrific rain storm, the ocean's waves suggested considerably smooth seas ahead. Navigating his water-borne vessel gave him a sense of independence. His firm ivory uniform not only provided him with the comforting appearance of an angel, but included several celestial qualities. Religiously, he continued carefully recording his distance and his magnetic bearing, as he voyaged. He reflected back to early navigation prior to the integration of a ship's compass. He remembered his grandfather determining his heading by sighting particular landmarks while observing certain celestial bodies. Evan looked down at his shiny modern black shoes and was thankful for his avant-garde compass. He felt secure with his new navigational instrument and persevered towards his plotted course. Gliding along the peaceful Atlantic, his sails swayed heavenly in the breeze. He kept a golden eye on his spars and masts. The ever so tall, vertical arrangement was mesmerizing. The magnetized pointer of his compass, pointed an erect South, in which he was confident would ultimately bring him to the island he had conceptualized. It was at that point, an abounding rainbow appeared and he knew how ever long the length of his journey, he would enjoy every breathe. He vigilantly proceeded in rolling up the length of his crisp white, salty sleeves.

His delightful golden toned skin swam by expeditiously. His vertical stripes were a blur, as a result of his fast shuffle. The waves and bubbles he produced interfered with me viewing him as a whole. I wondered if his large ebony eyes even got the chance to shift and glimpse over at me. Did he notice the soft, pastel pigment of my underbelly? What about the close similiarity of our peak and rear fins' coloring & form? It was obvious to me that we would make the perfect pair. I trusted that my gills looked fresh and clean, and were not what made him quickly flutter. The sun's rays were shining down on the Pemi today like a direct spotlight was arranged just for us. It was as if an aquaditic performance with conductors were proclaiming our names for the next act. I labored through every single bubble he left behind, whilst in the back of my mind pondering if he would be interested in performing a dance with me, under this mystifying light. I will capture him at this very moment.

Her pale bony skin swam by me with grace. The flesh tones of her under belly and her deep blue eyes created a vibrant aura throughout the Pemi. I wondered how she felt about my stripes, my pointy fins and my appearance in general. I prayed my lips were perched as she passed. The blue/green tones of the water today, melted my soul and made the coloring of her body shimmer with a paramount glow. I must admit the current water condition contrasted well with the complexion of my yellow pigment. I only hope she noticed. The small, rocky cove lies ahead and I must go see her, if that is where she has chosen to relax. I will join her.

Sandwich House 1804
The well dressed woman was approaching me rather quickly. I wanted to be polite so I shuffled as far to the right as I possibly could, without falling off the sidewalk. I noticed the woman shifting her purse to her other shoulder as she took the time to look towards me with a pleasant smile. I thought to myself that her acknowledgement was something I had never felt before in this town. I continued walking towards the stoic barn, the one I always admired. Not a single soul was ever present, but I felt today that others had walked along its path leading towards the geometric shaped barn door. I looked towards the second story window with all of its chipped and torn white sash. As usual, it appeared to be empty and extremely dark. I wondered the many secrets that were hidden inside. I curiously tried jiggling the barn door latch and found that for once, it popped open with a loud snap. I knew this day was going to be an extra special one. I looked around and behind me to see if anyone was nearby. I spotted the well dressed woman, down on the corner, grinning at me from the distance.

I concentrate intensely as my grandfather uniformly cranks the large wooden handle. I hear the raw material crushing ever so softly. The sweet scent is delightful. I am eager for him to open the drawer so that I may examine his handywork and inhale the fine fragrance that will unfold. He transfers the little brown specks into two white vessels. The aromatic oils begin releasing more with the addition of the hot, bubbly combination of hydrogen and oxygen. We converse about the day ahead as I pay close attention to the dark dreck sinking to the white bottoms. Grandfather has certainly mastered this art form with grace. Contently, we both continue sharing in this wonderful moment and its' energizing effect that will become our daily ritual together.

Aukland Light
As I circle around the gallery deck, I glance through the pockets of rain at the many frosty rocks below me. If only the watch room door was not frozen stiff, I would be able to find safe haven under the dark cupola. I reach for the polaroid in my pack, only to find the zipper is iced over. After taking a deep breath and watching the white vapor swirl steadily around me, I realize I already have the picture I desire, for it has been simultaneously exported into my mind. Overlooking the Pacific and not being engulfed in its' arctic wrath, is the perfect place for me to be. I loop once more around the gallery deck.

Lil' Tom
Welcome to my blog. A daily blog that combines my personal creative writing with original art, created by national and international artists. Enjoy!
Pecking in the field, he caught my eye. I tried to keep up with his fast pace, but instead fell to my knees, only to notice his beautifully colored feathers and large, dark, glossy eye. I found him rather cute & couldn't help staring at the way his short, little body moved. His mustard beak had only just begun speaking to me.....
